Gossip Girl Reboot: Cast Members, Ranked By Instagram Followers

Published

on

The new Gossip Girl reboot relies heavily on social media to carry the story along. Whether it is Julien’s constant Instagram lives or Gossip Girl tagging the students of Constance St. Jude’s School in the most recently uncovered scandal, social media is constantly at the center of the series. Which makes it interesting to take a look at the follower count of the cast in real life.

The cast has amassed a decent following on their social media accounts despite most of them being pretty new faces in Hollywood. However, cast members with more television roles under their belt seem to have more followers than others. Still, all of their followers are consistently growing.

11 Jonathan Fernandez (20.4k Followers)

Jonathan plays Nick Lott in the series. His being a dad on the show doesn’t throw him into the world of social media that often. His character doesn’t even have Instagram according to his on-screen daughter Zoya Lott. His Instagram in real life is definitely very active. He posts plenty of aesthetic travel pics and adorable anniversary posts about his wife.

He’s been posting more frequently since the show’s premiere and his posts have frequently been about the show itself. Fans can even see some behind-the-scenes pics of him with the rest of the cast if they follow his account.

10 Jason Gotay (26.2k Followers)

Jason Gotay plays Rafa Caparros on the series as one of the many teachers wrapped up in the drama of the students at Constance St. Jude’s School. His character is trying his best to keep himself out of the school’s drama but that is no small task.

Jason’s career was primarily in theater prior to this series but his transition to television has been seamless. On his Instagram, he posts pictures of him and the cast of the series, his fiancé, and plenty of beautiful selfies and editorial photos.

9 Savannah Lee Smith (65.6k Followers)

Savannah Lee Smith plays Monet, one of the more popular and influential students at Constance St. Jude’s School. On the show she is basically Julien’s social media manager and coordinates her posts, hashtags and Instagram lives for her. On Savannah’s own Instagram account, her first post is actually only from January 2019.

She posted more frequently after getting cast in the series and it is clear that she has a handle on the aesthetic of her feed. It is full of stunning pictures of herself, and the cast. According to an interview with Glamour, she would love to continue to use her platform for social issues such as Black Lives Matter and advocating for the homeless epidemic, especially in Los Angeles.

8 Jordan Alexander (97.1k Followers)

Jordan Alexander plays Julien Calloway on the show and is the school’s “it girl”. She has the most followers and is a full-blown social media influencer. Julien Calloway takes social media by storm and uses it perfectly to gain success and popularity. It makes Gossip Girl using social media to expose scandals involving her hurt more since she has such a big following.

Jordan is a newer actress with only six credits prior to the series but had a following on her account as a singer out of Toronto. Her account has plenty of beautiful pictures of herself and her friends. She also posts often about the LGTBQ+ community and social activism.

7 Whitney Peak (148k Followers)

Whitney Peak plays Zoya Lott, Julien’s half-sister, on the series. Two of her biggest roles prior to Gossip Girl were as Judith on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and as Stella in Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s GameOn her Instagram, she shares plenty of pictures of her hanging with friends and castmates.

Her following on Instagram is constantly growing and she is consistently posting new content for her followers there. She frequently updates her stories and posts every few days.

6 Eli Brown (168k Followers)

Eli Brown plays Obie in the series and is also pretty new to television similar to other cast members. His character on the show isn’t as wrapped up in the world of social media as the rest of his friends. Eli’s own Instagram account doesn’t have many posts as well.

Many of his posts lean more towards the artsy and aesthetically-pleasing side. He has some posts with his castmates from the show but most of his feed is artwork or pictures that feel like he just uploaded them from his camera roll. Despite not posting much, he does have a decent amount of followers on the app.

5 Tavi Gevinson (503k Followers)

Tavi Gevison plays Kate Keller, the main teacher spearheading the new Gossip Girl account to keep her students in line. She and other teachers creating this new account was definitely a surprise twist in the pilot of Gossip Girl reboot. She easily falls into the role of Gossip Girl as she uses her connections with other teachers to uncover the biggest scandals in the school.

Her Instagram feed is nothing like her character. It is bright and vibrant with pictures of herself, friends, and projects she is working on.  It feels positive and vibrant and nothing like the Gossip Girl account her character is behind on the show.

4 Emily Alyn Lind (537k Followers)

Emily plays Audrey in the series. Her character is slightly conflicted about her feelings towards Max while dating Aki. She definitely is a complicated and complex character on the show. Audrey is shipped with both Max and Aki on the series and fans are really rooting for Audrey’s relationships on the show.

On her Instagram, Emily promotes her music career, which started in tandem with her being cast on Gossip Girl. Her feed is full of editorial pictures of herself and her castmates. Equally, there are plenty of candid photos of herself with her friends having fun and being carefree.

Evan Mock’s character Aki on the show is shy at first and is described as innocent by his friends. Aki soon starts exploring his sexuality and navigating his relationship with Audrey. Fans wish to learn more about his character since he seems like a pretty likable Gossip Girl character so far.

Evan’s Instagram is bright and bold. His photos all have vibrant colors whether it is a professional photo of him or a candid of him skateboarding. Fans can definitely see the actor’s different interests on his feed through the many photos he has shared on his account.

2 Zión Moreno (892k Followers)

Zión Moreno is relatively new to acting but has plenty of experience in modeling. She plays Luna and is one half of the iconic mean girl duo that is her and Monet. Viewers learned that she lives on her own in NYC due to her parents traveling for work constantly. There is still plenty to learn about her character but she is definitely an independent woman with her own personal style.

Moreno’s Instagram has plenty of soft-filtered photos of herself and some with her fellow castmates. Her feed feels artistic and beautiful while being curated to really highlight her career as a model and actress.

1 Thomas Doherty (4.4M Followers)

Most people will recognize Thomas Doherty from either his role as Sebastian on Legacies or as Harry Hook in Disney’s Descendants trilogy. His character Max on Gossip Girl shows him completely pulling away from his Disney role as a promiscuous student at Constance St. Jude’s School. Max is immediately established as a character who can start trouble but a character that fans will obviously care for throughout the series.

Doherty’s Instagram switches between magazine photoshoots to film grain photos of him and his friends. He definitely has the most followers out of the main cast in the series likely due to his previous popular roles.

Instagram Is Rolling Out Reels Replies, And Will Be Testing A New Feature Which Informs …

instagram-is-rolling-out-reels-replies,-and-will-be-testing-a-new-feature-which-informs-…

Instagram has added a few more social features to the platform, with Reels Replies being rolled out. Along with the Replies, anew feature is being tested that shows when two users are active together in the same chat.

Reels has been performing much better than perhaps even Instagram ever anticipated. The TikTok-inspired new video format (which officially claims to have absolutely no relation to the former) had some trouble really finding its footing initially. However, Reels has grown massively and while it may not be a source of the most direct competition to TikTok, it is indeed a worthy alternative.

Reels has grown to the point that it has a massive creator program attached to it, and the video format has even been migrated to Facebook with the goal of generating further user interest there. Naturally, with such a successful virtual goldmine on its hands, Instagram has been hard at work developing new features and interface updates for Reels, integrating it more and more seamlessly into the rest of the social media platform. Features such as Reels Replies are a major part of such attempts at integration.

Reels Visual Replies are essentially just what they sound like: A Reel that is being used to reply to someone. It’s a feature that’s been seen frequently across TikTok as well. Reel Replies essentially take a user’s comments, and reply to them in video format. The comment will then show up within the Reel itself as a text-box, taking up some amount of space, and showing both the user who issued said comment along with the text. The text-box is apparently adjustable, with users having the ability to move it around and change its size depending on where it obstructs one’s Reel the least.

Overall, it’s a fun addition to the Reels format, even if the credit should be going to TikTok first. At any rate, it’s an example of Instagram really utilizing Reels’ social media capabilities, outside of just serving it up as a form of entertainment.

Speaking of social media capabilities, a new feature might help alleviate one of the most common frustrations encountered across all such platforms. Isn’t it annoying when you see that a friend’s online, but isn’t replying to your chat? Sure, they’ve probably just put their phone down to run a quick errand, but there’s no way for you to know, right? Well, there sort of is now! Instagram is beta testing a new feature via which if both users are active within a chat, the platform will display that accordingly. It’s a work-around, sure, and one that’s currently being tested for usefulness, but it’s still a very nice, and even fresh, addition to the social media game.

Now, the active status will only appear when you are both active at the same time.#Instagram #instgramnewfeature@MattNavarra @instagram @alex193a pic.twitter.com/2chGZP9hr4
